Quality Control (QC) Engineer

Montréal, Canada

The Mission

As our Quality Control (QC) Engineer, you are the final gatekeeper of excellence. You will ensure that every high-complexity robotic controller leaving our facility meets "iPhone-caliber" mechanical, PCB, and aesthetic standards. Reporting to the Production Director, you will bridge the gap between engineering theory and manufacturing reality, moving the company from manual inspections toward a future of automated testing and ISO 9001 certification.

Why Join Us?

This is a role for a QC Expert who thrives on precision and process architecture. We aren't looking for someone to simply follow a checklist; we need an engineer who can build the checklist from scratch. You will independently organize the QC function in a fast-scaling environment, collaborating with robotics and software teams to modernize validation processes. Success in this position means proving that "premium quality" is a repeatable science, potentially paving the way to lead the Quality function as Haply expands.

Day 1 Realities

  • We are building the plane while flying it. You won’t inherit a complete library of SOPs; you will identify gaps in our current quality workflows and build the standardized procedures needed to fix them permanently.
  • You will get your hands dirty. One day you’ll be collaborating with engineering to develop test methods and define definitions of done; the next, you will be personally inspecting and packing products so customer shipping can take place.
  • Boundaries are essential. You must maintain objective quality standards even when production timelines are tight. Success requires the interpersonal strength to say "no" to a shipment if it doesn't meet our "physical truth." However, you must also have the self-awareness to know when to compromise and QC bypass a product when important deadlines require it.
  • Technical intuition is a must. If a batch of machined parts arrives out of spec, you don't just flag it; you analyze the engineering drawings, execute statistical sampling (AQL), and work with the Supply Chain Manager to hold vendors accountable.
  • Process diligence is led by example. You don't just design the workflow; you are the first to execute it. You will ensure that every unit is sealed to a premium consumer-grade standard, maintaining extreme attention to detail even during high-pressure fulfillment cycles.

What You Will Own

  • QC Procedures & SOPs: Own the quality control procedures for all components tested. You will define technical requirements, record SOPs, and ensure these processes are implemented and documented for others to follow.
  • Production Quality Assurance: Perform hands-on QC inspections of robotic controllers, ensuring all mechanical and electronic components meet stringent aesthetic and functional criteria.
  • Inbound Component Testing: Manage the receiving and sampling of incoming parts; execute tests against engineering specifications to ensure vendor compliance using statistical sampling plans (AQL, ANSI/ASQ Z1.4).
  • Premium Packaging & Fulfillment: Own the final kitting process, ensuring products are pristine, complete, correctly configured, and sealed to a professional standard.

What You Will Support

  • Defining Test Jig Requirements: Collaborate with software and robotics teams to define success criteria for in-house testing rigs and iterate on automated testing tools. You contribute to the scope of work and "definition of done" for new test procedures.
  • Inventory & Procurement: Assist in maintaining accurate inventory levels for released components within Odoo (ERP) and support the purchasing lifecycle for these items to ensure uninterrupted production (functionally owned by the Supply Chain Manager).
  • Technical Supply Chain: Partner with the Supply Chain Manager to resolve Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and provide technical feedback on vendor performance.
  • Engineering & R&D: Provide feedback on component failures or assembly friction to help iterate on "Design for Manufacturing" (DFM) improvements.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Automated Production Engineering (B.Eng).
  • Experience: 3–5 years in a QC/Quality role specifically within commercial hardware, robotics, or high-end consumer electronics.
  • Technical Skills: Proven experience implementing statistical sampling plans. Ability to read and interpret 2D/3D technical drawings.
  • Language: Professional proficiency in both French and English.

Assets (Nice-to-Haves)

  • Software Mastery: Direct experience using Odoo (or similar ERP) for inventory control and procurement.
  • Professional Status: Eligible for or registered with the OIQ (Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec).
  • Certification: Six Sigma Green Belt or ASQ Certified Quality Engineer (CQE).

Who You Are

  • The Self-Directed Process Owner: You independently identify QC needs and take the initiative to define test requirements and record SOPs. You don't just design the process; you follow it yourself and ensure it is documented so it can be replicated by others.
  • The Objective Arbitrator: You have the "startup fit"—you are collaborative but maintain firm boundaries when it comes to quality standards, while remaining pragmatic about business deadlines.
  • The Proactive Troubleshooter: You identify potential quality risks or "leaks" in the process before they reach the customer.
