About Haply

Haply Robotics builds the world's most precise haptic devices. Our products (Inverse3, VerseGrip, MinVerse, Haply Hub, HARP) are deployed across research labs, industrial integration projects, and production environments where the difference between "good" and "right" is measured in milliseconds and millinewtons. As robots and autonomous systems become more capable, humans still need intuitive ways to teach, guide, and supervise physical tasks. Haply builds the platform that allows people to program and train machines through touch and motion.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Development Manager, you’ll lead Haply’s software team while remaining hands-on with engineering. You’ll guide platform development, mentor the team, contribute to code, and help ensure Haply’s software is robust, reliable, and built to a high technical standard.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive the execution of the platform architecture across all software domains, in close collaboration with the Platform Architect, who leads the overall architectural direction, decisions, and cross-team alignment.
  • Lead a growing software team day to day: ensure strategy priorities, dispatch work, run reviews, mentor, and keep the bar high without making it invisible.
  • Implement an employee performance framework, monitor it, and guide employees to reach their goals successfully.
  • Get actively involved in code implementation and champion best coding practices.
  • Develop responsible AI-augmented workflows into how the team ships.
  • Lead and document architecture decisions and cross-team commitments.
  • Ensure platform code is fast and robust, holding it to a standard that the layers built on top of it and the developer ecosystem can trust.
  • Own the health of the platform architecture, drivers, service layer, and transports.
  • Own the quality bar for what the platform ships—the standard the rest of internal and external engineering expects.
  • In the first 60 days, establish a quality, velocity, and predictability baseline and document the method.
  • By month 6, hit a self-set target against that baseline, alongside standing up a working team cadence.

Must Have

  • 7+ years in software engineering, with meaningful time in systems or platform-level work, not just application code.
  • 3+ years in a software engineering management role.
  • Strong C++ or Rust experience on production systems; cross-platform fluency across Windows and Linux (macOS a plus).
  • USB communication experience; familiarity with WebSocket, serial, or TCP/UDP transports.
  • Disciplined approach to testing, documentation, and version compatibility.
  • Bilingual French/English.
  • Experience leading or coordinating a growing team: dispatching work, running reviews, and mentoring.
  • Hands-on coding ability; this isn’t a pure people-management role.
  • Experience personally shipping complex cross-platform work, not just directing it.

Nice to have

  • Rust experience for systems and host-side work, especially since HARP is Rust.
  • Experience with plugin/extension architectures or runtime DLL loading.
  • Real-time or high-frequency control loop experience.
  • Exposure to robotics, haptics, or teleoperation.

What We’re Looking For

  • Someone who’s personally shipped the tricky cross-platform glue, not just assigned it to someone else.
  • Comfortable making the call when needed, and comfortable rewriting their own architecture decision when better information shows up, rather than defending a plan because it’s already been announced.
  • Background as a platform or systems engineer who grew into leading a team, ideally at a hardware-adjacent or deep-tech company.
